In this workshop, actors will explore the art of surrender- learning to trust embodied impulses and spontaneous
reactions to text, so that every take, every rehearsal, every performance feels as alive and immediate as the first yet develops unique and different qualities.
Inspired by the work of Nikolai Demidov, a pioneer and significant figure in the Moscow Drama School and guided by Uta O’Brien's consent-based framework for safe practice, this process stirs the raw truth of acting, nurturing instinct, presence, and creative freedom.
This exploration reconnects actors with their inner creative source through practical exercises that evoke the circumstances in the space through spontaneous reactions, while cultivating a deep listening to their scene partner. Far from rational analysis, the actor will learn to trust their impulses, whether physical, psychophysical, or emotional, and to embrace them, surrendering fully to the truth of the present moment.
Due to the impulsive nature of this work, we will establish the fundamental principles of consent, drawing
inspiration from Uta O’Brien's work to allow each participant to evolve within an environment that respects
their individuality, experiences, and personal boundaries. We will explore how consent does not limit
creativity but, on the contrary, amplifies it, establishing an interesting creative tension that allows everyone to
work with authenticity and a sense of emotional, physical, and psychological safety. The creation of a
character is a deeply intimate act—the notion of play in this approach engages the individual as a whole, and
understanding and articulating one’s own limits is part of discovering one's individuality in the craft of acting.
